Being a Grand Rapids native and now a Detroit local, tell me the biggest differences you see in the way producers go about creating their sound. And do you have a sound you prefer?
I noticed that Grand Rapids producers have a wider range of beat styles than Detroit producers. I think it's because Grand Rapids is super diverse and we all grew up listening to 104.5, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary to listen to different genres and that all leaks into our production. Grand Rapids producers are better than Detroit producers
Are there any genres or styles you haven’t explored yet but are considering for future projects or just for fun?
I want to make more pop music. Rap is my default genre but making a big pop record would make me feel like the mannn. Like I have sooo many beats I can hear Tinashe on, random but true hahaha.
Over the past few years we’ve seen an increase in producers jumping in the studio and releasing albums almost exclusively being produced by themselves. Do you see yourself maybe following the trend in the near future ? If not ,why ?
I would love to do that. Thats so fire to me! But I would only do it if it’s a concept project, not just having a bunch of big names scrambled in a hat and hoping for the best lol
How did you first get involved in producing, and who were your early influences?
My cousin really helped me figure out how to use FL Studio, in fact, my first ever attempt at making a beat is still on his computer! I always knew I could make beats because I had them in my head all the time as a kid, I just didn't know how to make it into a real thing. He showed me how to do that!
Early influences were producers like CardoGotWings, Key Wane, boi1da, Helluva, Mike Dean, DJ Mustard, Mike Will, wondagurl. There’s so many people I STUDIED in the beginning of my career, I could talk about it for hours, literally haha!
What's your biggest goal for the near future in your career?
My biggest goal in the near future is to get a song I produced to a million plays
Long term is to go 10x platinum and own my own label.
