David, tell me what got you started in the creative space ?
My origin actually starts with reading all of Harry Potter. That got me into writing, which in turn, made me get into cinema, from there I explored photography and videography, and here I am now exploring artistry through many different mediums.

When stuck and you can’t seem to find motivation what’re some things you like to do to pick the motion back up in your workflow?
Think that depends on the type of stuff that I’m feeling. If I’m feeling uninspired and that has me stuck then I just live my life, because I know inspiration will and can strike from anything. It can be anything from a song I listen to or a scene from a movie. When I’m stuck with no motivation to do any work, I just tell myself to do whatever it is I’m struggling to work on to find that engagement and make a breakthrough happen.

With you at one point being a Florida local what are some of the biggest differences especially in the creative space between Florida and Michigan ? And do you prefer either or?
One of the biggest differences between Florida and Michigan is when working down there it’s sorta clicked up. Artists have a team where they all tryna eat and make it out as a unit. I’ve tried to bring that back with me to Michigan. A lot of artists here don’t have a team, any level of creative group, let alone a make-it-out mentality with how I see it. Finding people who will put money in your pocket is far and few between versus people who want to use you for your talents and not put up any money under this guise of "collaborating".

Have you ever thought about expanding into other areas besides photography? Maybe movie directing or even producing films ?
I already consider myself more than a photographer and videographer. In the past year, I have found myself looking for more advantageous roles, such as curating, designing, and creative directing.

Talk to us a little bit about you being recognized for your talents and being selected to feature your work in the Grand Rapids Art Prize ! How did you feel, do you remember where you were at the time when you got the news ?
It came down to being tapped in on a local level and people fucking with what you do. I got a DM over Instagram from a committee member who had thrown a collective of us in a group chat. Some of us chopped it up and were hesitant at first, but eventually, the ball got rolling. Ultimately, it all felt great to be drafted— until the experience wasn’t. I wanted more for my work and how it should be handled, but it turned out the exhibit was managed by someone who couldn’t care less about the arts.
